Title: Papier Mâché Ammonite Wall Hangings
Materials: Acrylics and Papier Mâché.
Size: 12" diameter x 2.5" deep.
I enjoyed almost every step in making these. I made a clay form. That went pretty quickly and I really like working big in wet clay. The plaster just gets poured over the form and presto, a mold.
Laying the newspaper in layer by layer takes a long time, but I found it meditative. The last few layers are from the Sunday funnies. I think that it is important that the last layer shows that it really is newspaper.
Cleaning, final shaping, and sanding. Then three coats of sanded gesso. It is more work, but the results are already starting to show.
Washes and faux finish techniques in acrylics. I really like the results.
