OK, this is not really one of my favorite pieces. What I really like is what it taught me.
Somehow, I came up with the idea to cover a vase with eyeballs. I made the small white vase as a test. I really wasn't sure what I thought of the idea after that.
I decided that I had to make it bigger and with more contrast. I had to really mean it. The result was the larger brown vase.
I like the way the eyes really show up in the larger size and against the darker background. The whole effect is maybe a bit too creepy for me. Maybe I should have seen that coming, but somehow I didn't.
OK, my son wants me to make more things like this and the worm bowl. Maybe some day I will. Till then, I think that I will just pull this one out on Halloween and put a dead branch in it covered with plastic spiders and cobwebs. Maybe some dry ice and LEDs inside.
So, the moral is that I really do have to mean it, but I won't always like the result.
